Am Shalom (People of Peace), a Reform congregation, was established on June 18, 1972. Its first formal Shabbat Service was held on August 4, 1972.
Am Shalom began with sixty families who shared in certain common concepts of Jewish worship and living, and came together to create a new and vibrant Reform congregation. Under the leadership of Founding Rabbi Harold L. Kudan, who retired in 2002 after 30 years of service, and current Senior Rabbi Steven Stark Lowenstein, Am Shalom has grown from its original sixty families to its current membership of more than 1,000 families.
We strive to offer educational and spiritual opportunities that will connect with congregants of all ages and diverse interests. Our social action programming and community service recognizes not only the needs of the Jewish community, but those of the community at large, in our continual efforts to engage in Tikkun Olam (world repair.)
We invite you to get to know us better!
Join us for a Shabbat service, one of our special music programs, an adult learning opportunity, or a family-friendly holiday celebration. We'd also like to get to know you better, and talk about how Am Shalom may fit your interests and needs.
Alyssa Latala, our Director of Engagement, would be happy to answer your questions, show you around, and introduce you to our clergy. Please call her at 847.835.4800 ext. 211 or email her.
