TWO MINUTES OF TORAH

Here's Rabbi Steve's two minute take on this week's Torah portion. Read more about Yom Sh'vi-i shel Pesach.

QUIT LOAFING AROUND: CURBSIDE PIZZA PICK-UP

Our regularly scheduled Quit Loafing Around: Curbside Challah Pick-Up will transform into a pizza drive-thru this Friday, April 2. Since we can't have challah this Shabbat, we're giving away frozen pizzas to help you celebrate the end of Passover! Join us in the North Parking Lot between 9:30-10:30am. (End of Passover for 7 day observers is Saturday night, 8 day observers is Sunday night.)

HOLOCAUST SERIES

Join us Friday, April 2 at 12:00pm for a discussion led by Alissa Schapiro, curator and a doctoral candidate in art history at Northwestern University, specializing in 20th century American art and the history of photography. This talk looks at three different kinds of photographs* of the newly liberated Nazi concentration camps--press images, official Army prints, and amateur personal keepsakes--taken by Americans in the Spring and Summer of 1945. These photographs were almost immediately presented to the U.S. public in popular magazines and local exhibitions. ZOOM in. *Warning: The photographs of liberated concentration camps shown in this talk are graphic and disturbing.

MUSIC MONDAYS WITH AM SHALOM

Start your week off on a high note! ZOOM in for a lunchtime musical treat with Geoff Shell (piano) on Monday, April 5 at 12:30pm.

GOOD DEEDS DAY COOKIE COLLECTION

Am Shalom is partnering with JUF TOV Volunteers on a Good Deeds Day project to help food insecure families. We are collecting cookies, which will accompany a meal provided by the organization Fight2Feed. Any and all cookie types welcome (NO NUTS, please). Please provide a minimum of two dozen (no maximum).

Drive through our Circle Drive with your cookies on Friday, April 16 between 9:30-10:30am, and receive a challah for Shabbat on your way out. Please sign up so we know how many bakers to expect! More logistical info will be emailed upon registration.

NEED VACCINATION APPOINTMENT HELP?

Some very special Am Shalom members have offered to assist fellow congregants who qualify for the COVID-19 vaccine under the State of Illinois guidelines. If you are in need of help making an appointment, please contact Alyssa Latala to be put in touch with our volunteers.

Holocaust Series:
WOULD YOU HIDE ME?

We are honored to welcome filmmaker, activist and actress Beth Lane. WOULD YOU HIDE ME? is Beth's debut feature documentary. It tells the incredible story of seven siblings evading capture as German Jews during World War II. Among these children? Beth's own mother. Their survival was made possible by the heroic actions of the citizens of a small town just east of Berlin.
