JEWISH MUSIC HERITAGE LEARNING SERIES

The Jewish Music Heritage Learning Series endeavors to study the ever-evolving modes of worship and musical expression within the Jewish prayer experience. As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Am Shalom, ZOOM in with our cantors on Thursday, November 11 at 7:00pm for PART II: A Brief History of Chicagoland Jewish Music (Post WWII through Present Day) with Dr. Judah Cohen, Professor of Jewish Culture and Director of the Jewish Studies Department at Indiana University. CLICK HERE to view PART I (Beginnings through Max Janowski).

VIRTUAL MUSEUM TOUR: RISE UP - STONEWALL AND THE LGBTQ RIGHTS MOVEMENT

Rise Up: Stonewall and the LGBTQ Rights Movement at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center explores the June 1969 police raid of the Stonewall Inn as the flashpoint that ignited the modern gay rights movement in the United States. In the last fifty years since the Stonewall Uprising, America’s LGBTQ population has struggled for equal rights and representation under the law. Rise Up shares the voices and tells the stories of this movement.

Join us for a virtual tour of the exhibit on Friday, November 12 at 12:00pm. Register for the ZOOM link.

COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS

What would you do if the person you love became someone else? In his profoundly honest memoir, The Thin Ledge: A Husband's Memoir of Love, Trauma and Unexpected Circumstances, Daniel P. Shapiro shares the reality of living through his wife’s mental and physical decline caused by a devastating illness. Rabbi Steve will sit down with Dan Shapiro for our next installment of Courageous Conversations on Wednesday, November 17 at 7:00pm. ZOOM in at https://www.amshalom.com/courageous-conversations
