NOW ACCEPTING BOARD NOMINATIONS

Am Shalom is run by and for our members. Our dynamic and dedicated Board of Trustees is comprised of members who are excited about the sacred work of leading our congregation into the future. The key responsibilities of our trustees include attending monthly meetings, serving on at least one committee, being positive ambassadors for the congregation and representing the board as needed.

The Nominating Committee is responsible for identifying and recommending a slate of qualified individuals to fill the several positions available.

Know someone deserving of this honor, or wish to be considered for a position yourself? Please contact Nominating Committee Chair Michael Blum at michaeldblum@gmail.com for more information.

COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE

There is an urgent need for blood donations, and every donor saves three lives. Am Shalom will host a Community Blood Drive on Tuesday, March 1 from 1:00-5:00pm. Appointments appreciated; walk-ins are welcome.

SOJUST: NEW ADVOCACY INITIATIVE

Here's an opportunity to say "Hineini" - here I am. Illinois House Bill 2775 aims to end a source of income discrimination in housing to ensure that renters are not turned away simply because they use housing vouchers, Social Security, or other public benefits rather than traditional wages to pay rent. Learn more from the Religious Action Center of Illinois about what you can do to help pass this bill. ZOOM in on Thursday, March 3 at 7:00pm. Questions? Contact Ted Schaffner at 847-840-1429 or tschaff@comcast.net.

SAVE THE DATE! CRAFTING FOR GROWN-UPS

Crafting for Grown-ups is back on Wednesday, March 2 at 7:00pm with another fun session with Abby Maier of Art Party Chicago! We'll be creating fused glass coasters. All of the supplies will be provided. Abby will take the pieces to her Deerfield studio to fire, where they will be available for pick-up shortly thereafter. $36/person (each person will make two coasters). All grown-ups welcome! No prior art experience necessary. Register here.

LEARN TO READ HEBREW FOR ADULTS (ONLINE COURSE)

Get started with the aleph-bet! Learn the shapes and sounds of the Hebrew alphabet, with a warm and supportive educator to guide you and a group of classmates for practicing together. Recognize and understand common Hebrew words and phrases that are often heard in Reform congregations and in Jewish prayer. This course assumes no prior Hebrew experience and has been developed specifically for online learning by the Union for Reform Judaism. Live sessions meet weekly over video conferencing. Read more and register here.
