Am Shalom is on the Metaverse
What exactly is the metaverse?
The metaverse is an online virtual world that incorporates augmented reality, virtual reality, 3D holographic avatars, video and other means of communication, where users "live" within a digital universe. Supporters of the metaverse envision its users working, playing and staying connected with friends through everything from concerts and conferences to virtual trips around to the world.
Why would a synagogue want to be on the metaverse?
The pandemic has reminded us of our need to adapt to changing technology in order to meet people where they are. Let's remember that books were once considered new-fangled, and we've been the People of the Book for a long time! Anything and everything that can make Judaism more accessible has always been a goal - from printed books to online volumes of Talmud, from market-day Torah readings to livestreamed Shabbat services, from yeshiva halls to Facebook discussion groups. Judaism has always been on the cutting-edge. The metaverse is a logical next step for our people!
We have purchased land on the Island of Scarcity on the world of Cryptovoxels and will begin construction on the first virtual synagogue. If you are interested in helping us build, please contact Rabbi Steve.
Check out this image of our Publicize the Miracle concert featuring Craig Taubman & Friends - livestreamed to the metaverse! This is an incredibly exciting way to engage both with our congregation and to reach and inspire audiences around the country and the world.
As we celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2022, we look back at where we started, with an eye toward the future. We are excited to explore this new avenue for growth and connection.
What is cryptocurrency?
Cryptocurrency is a form of payment that can be exchanged online for goods and services. Many companies have issued their own currencies, often called tokens, and these can be traded specifically for the good or service that the company provides. Think of them as you would arcade tokens or casino chips. You’ll need to exchange real currency for the cryptocurrency to access the good or service.
We were excited to be one of the first 500 organizations to accept crypto on a platform called Giving Block.
How do I make a donation to Am Shalom using cryptocurrency?
