Special Shabbat Events

Ruach Choir and Shir Chadash ShabbatsMusic at Am Shalom small

Our youth choir and teen band participate in Shabbat services throughout the year.

Ruach Choir*, our youth choir, sings at High Holy Day Family services, and at services throughout the school year. The Ruach Choir is composed of students in the 2nd–6th grades. Generally, rehearsals are twice a month at 9:00 am before Religious School on Sundays.

Shir Chadash*, our post B’nai Mitzvah jam band, plays at High Holy Day Family and Teen services, and at various Shabbat services. The musicians act as Religious School Madrichim, and meet on Sundays throughout the school year, accompanying the Ruach Choir, t’filah, and visiting classrooms. Generally, rehearsals are twice a month at 8:30 am before Religious School on Sundays.

Jewish Music Heritage Shabbat (JMHS)Music at Am Shalom small

This series of three Shabbats helps to expose and explore the ever-evolving modes of worship and musical expression within the Jewish prayer experience, and features Koleinu*.

Koleinu,formerly known as The Am Shalom Adult Choir,started shortly after Am Shalom’s formation in 1972. Over the years, the choir has sung at Shabbat and High Holy Days services. In addition, this group has had the pleasure of performing with many renowned Jewish composers/performers: Debbie Friedman, Bonia Shur, Craig Taubman, Julie Silver, Samuel Adler, Danny Maseng.
