Ken Smith (Piano/Organ) has been the much-treasured pianist and organist at Am Shalom since 1982. A native of Louisiana, Ken received his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in piano from Indiana University, studying with Sidney Foster. From 1992-2014, Ken served as the leading vocal coach on the faculty of the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University. He has performed as both accompanist and soloist in concert engagements all over the world with such organizations as the Arcadia Chamber Music Society of Japan, the Bel Canto Foundation (Chicago, Italy) with luminaries of the operatic world such as Renata Tebaldi and Carlo Bergonzi, the Metropolitan Opera Auditions (Central Midwest Region), and the Naked Voice Institute (Chicago).
