Zoe Sherman

Chief Financial Officer

Joined the team in 2002
Zoe Sherman has been responsible for the day-to-day finances of Am Shalom since 2002 and began a management role in 2017. She handles everything from budgeting and financial reporting to keeping a close eye on expenses and long-term planning, working closely with leadership and staff to make sure the numbers are clear, accurate, and useful, and that financial decisions support both current needs and future goals. She sees her role as helping the organization run smoothly behind the scenes so others can focus on their work. Before stepping into this role, Zoe worked as Assistant Controller at Temple Sholom of Chicago, where she gained hands-on experience with nonprofit accounting and financial operations. She graduated from Loyola University in 1996.

01

What’s your favorite Am Shalom tradition?

I love the behind-the-scenes hustle and bustle leading up to the High Holidays, when a lot of careful planning and coordination comes together to make sure everything is ready when it matters most.

02

What brings you Jewish joy?

I like the idea of shared rituals. It is awesome to think that on any given Friday, Jews all over the world share the same liturgy and participate in similar rituals. Makes me feel like a part of something bigger. Also, Jewish comfort food.

03

What’s your favorite Jewish food?

Kugel (with raisins!), challah and homemade matzah ball soup
